Purchasing Pet Medications Online Can be
Dangerous
Online Pet Pharmacies have flooded the Internet in a
very dangerous way. These so-called 'Online
pharmacies' are exposing pets to huge risks and are
creating problems for pharmaceutical companies whose
products are being sold on unregulated sites. For
example, purchasing Heartgard Plus, from an on-line
pharmacy, may save you a few dollars, but will take
away the product’s guarantee. Merial, the company
behind Heartgard, has a Plus Guarantee that applies
only when purchased from a licensed Veterinarian. If
you are not satisfied with the performance of
Heartgard Plus or if your pet tests positive,
treatment cost (up to $500) and a one year supply of
Heartgard will be provided.
Online Pharmacies also don’t properly warn customers
about the dangers of mixing drugs. This often causes
the pets to have bad reactions to the drugs. The
Pharmaceutical Association says getting drugs from
online pharmacies is dangerous for pets’ health. The
pharmacy and prescription system exists for a reason
- to protect pets from harmful side effects that
their owners are not trained to recognize. Online
Pharmacies are simply looking for a relationship
with your wallet.
Though we want you to be aware of dangers of
ordering medications with an online pharmacy, we do
realize the convenience in doing so. That is why as
part of our ongoing emphasis is on preventative
health care and education, you can now order refills
of your pets medications online. For your pet’s
safety, all medications need to be approved by one
of our veterinarians prior to pick up. Once
approved, we will notify you of a pick up time via
email and/or phone. |
